Open 24/7 via San Emergency Care, San Orthopaedics Rapid Access Injury Service provides streamlined orthopaedic care. This service is designed to provide patients presenting to Emergency with rapid access to assessment, imaging, and follow-up where required for musculoskeletal injuries.

Supported by direct access to our large tertiary hospital with its comprehensive services, latest technologies and leading specialists, patients can be admitted to hospital immediately if required.

Patients who do not need immediate admission but require rapid follow-up can book in to see one of our San orthopaedic specialists within 2 working days of being assessed if clinically appropriate.

Information for GPs

If your patient has experienced an orthopaedic injury, we invite you to consider our Rapid Access Injury Service for prompt and effective treatment. Backed by Sydney's largest private tertiary hospital, our service features the latest technologies and a team of leading specialists dedicated to your patients' care.

We prioritise imaging, and if surgery is necessary, we ensure timely intervention. For patients who do not require surgery, we will provide appropriate support aids. Patients can arrange follow-up appointments with the right specialists within two business days when clinically indicated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of this service?

You will be required to pay the standard EC fee of $385 when you present to the Emergency Care department, and you will also be charged for any consumables you take home with you. Diagnostic imaging is bulk-billed when presenting through this clinic. Your orthopaedic specialists' costs are separate and should be discussed with your doctor.

Are crutches provided if I need them?

Yes, crutches and other support items such as braces or boots can be provided for you at a cost.

How does this service differ to a normal EC visit?

Patients will still be triaged on presentation in the usual manner. When presenting with an orthopaedic injury we are providing a streamlined process for imaging and follow up assessment within 4 hours following triage, wherever possible. In some cases this may be not be possible, depending on arrival times at EC and the type of imaging required.
